Bahamian artist Sonia Isaacs is a native of Nassau, New Providence. Her early education took place in The Bahamas at St. Thomas Moore School and St. John's College. She went on to study Art History in Italy, France, Switzerland and England. After majoring in Fine Arts at College in Boston, Massachusetts, Sonia returned home in to pursue a career as a professional artist. |

In 1979 she was appointed Gallery Director to the exclusive Lyford Cay Art Gallery - the first Bahamian to hold that position. Her resume includes teaching art at St. John's College and St. Anne's High School. She also worked in the Art Gallery at Nassau Glass and was the Director of Spectrum Art Gallery, Bay Street.
In November 1984, Sonia Isaacs was the first Bahamian female artist to have a major one-woman show in the United States - in Eaton Town, New Jersey. Sponsored by the magazine “House Beautiful”, 30 of her paintings were exhibited in aid of The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County.

This skilled mood painter has a versatile style: bold, alive colours and textures that blend into diversified forms typify her work on canvas. Sonia also works on unglazed pottery with scenes depicting the culture of her Bahama islands. She is one of the most popular local artists and with collectors in The Caribbean, North America and Europe. |

After holding several one woman exhibits over the years and taking part in numerous group shows in Nassau and Eleuthera, Sonia now works in her studio at home and also gives private art classes. She was nominated for the Cacique Awards in 2002, and in May 2008 was honoured as a living legend for her long standing art and teaching career.
